Last year for my birthday my son took me on a trip from Pier Head down the Manchester ship canal: lots of locks and swing bridges, ships at anchor, and under the M6 at the Thelwall Viaduct. We came back by coach in the evening and tourists were still queueing up to have their photos taken with the 4 bronze statues of the Beatles.
