Congratulations to Jens-Tiago Mendes Serra Bender, whose photograph of one of the quieter and more hidden areas of the Botanic Gardens was selected as a Highly Commended entry for the recent Secrets of Cambridge competition in the under 18s category...

Announcing the winners and highly commended runners-up, Campkins Cameras, who hosted the competition in collaboration with Cambridge BID (Business Improvement District) and Love Cambridge, said that the panel of judges were particularly impressed by Jens' photo and the creative vision behind it, and felt it deserved special recognition amongst the many entries they received.

Photographs selected by the panel will be displayed at Cambridge Station, likely in July during Cambridge BID's Summer in the Square festival - the dates will be confirmed in due course.

Jens, who is the youngest member of Swavesey Camera Club, and only joined this season, often goes to the University Botanic Gardens with his dad to walk around with his camera. "Each time", he explains, "we take a different lens for me to practise: macro, telephoto, wide angle or standard. On that day we took our standard zooms and wandered around areas that are very hidden and without many people." He took this specific photograph because he enjoyed the wild look of the pond and its reflections.

To see more of Jens' work, visit his gallery of images here on the SCC website. We have also included below his entry to the Print Panel competition, which got a top score of 20/20 - another proud achievement in his first year at the club. We look forward to see what he goes on to achieve next season!
