Having finished joint third in last month's four-way battle at Ely, this evening's annual fixture was pitted as a rematch of sorts, to see whether Swavesey or St Neots should have left with the wooden spoon!
As the evening was under way, it seemed a close-run competition, with neither club pulling clear ahead, but at the end when the scores were announced, it was a fairly convincing win by Swavesey Camera Club, at 441 points to 433, with ultimately the number of images getting a top score of 20 making the difference, with three for St Neots against Swavesey's six.
We had a wonderful range of images, from macro to landscape, wildlife to historical re-enactment, and architectural to still life - congratulations to all photographers on both sides who took part.
As judge Naomi Saul said, the nature of the competition meant that it was likely that all submitted images may have been marked 20 in a previous competition, and so she had to find ways to separate them on the night.
Particular congratulations to the six Swavesey photographers awarded scores of 20 - Andy Dearn for his "Tiny Snail, Big Stretch", Jon Watkins for his "Rustic fence and Islandic church", Penny Reeves for her "Anemone", Dona McCullagh for her "Portrait of a white horse", Nev Tait for his "False Widow Spider with prey" and Barrie Hatten for his "Icy and Misty Fen".
Our warm thanks go to our judge on the evening, Naomi Saul, and to all members of St Neots Photographic Club who joined us on Zoom - we look forward to next year, and hope the weather will permit us to meet in person at the rematch!
