Congratulations to SCC member Charlotte Moore, whose photograph was selected as one of the winning entries to feature in the 2026 Hunstanton Sunsets Calendar!

Taken on a mobile phone, it just goes to show that you don't need a professional DSLR camera to take arresting photographs, and it sums up what we are all about at Swavesey Camera Club - it's a photograph that really speaks to the viewer, and conveys the atmosphere of the subject, taken as it was during the 80th Anniversary commemormations.

Depicting the gathering on the beach as the sun sets, with those gathered backlit by the warm glow of handheld fire beacons against the still blue sky of golden hour, it's a wonderfully poignant and atmospheric photograph.

"I went away during May to stay in Hunstanton," says Charlotte. "I hadn't stayed there since my childhood holidays, at which time we used to hire a caravan with gas lights, no electric lights. This trip coincided with the VE 80th Anniversary. Luckily I was able to see Hunstanton's beacon lighted; it was quite a moving gathering - I was so pleased I could attend. After this someone suggested, why not enter my picture into the calendar competition? So I did, but it being a mobile phone picture I didn't expect to hear anything. Then a week ago, I learnt that my image had been used!"

Charlotte's image is featured on the page for the month of May, appropriately, and in all versions of the calendar, which is available in A3, A4 and as a slimline wall calendar from the Hunstanton webcam shop

The photograph has also been chosen as the featured image of the A3 calendar on the shop page gallery.
