The results of the first competitions of the new season are in, with the traditional opening Annual DPI competition being followed by an innovation to the programme with a twist on our annual friendly with St Ives Photographic Club as the two clubs pitted their photos against each other in a new Mix 'n' Match format...
Mix 'n' (re)Match
While we were pipped to the post by our near neighbours, with St Ives winning the night by just four points in the end, it was an enjoyable and relaxed evening with a lot of laughter, and an inspired choice of judge in Richard Houghton who we suspect moonlights as a stand-up comedian. His running commentary on the inevitable humourous mismatches between photos really made the evening!
Our thanks to our External Competitions Secretary Ian Johnson for shouldering the responsibility for co-ordinating the evening from the Swavesey side, and to St Ives Photographic Club for their hospitality. We hope to get a date in the diary for a home rematch next year.
20/20 vision
Looking back to the first ranking competition of the season, congratulations to Jon Watkins not only on his winning image, "Dawn at Ribeira da Janela", but for achieving a 20 score with his second image also, a stunning and unique image of Hellnar Church in Iceland.
Other contenders for the top spot included Penny's beautifully balanced "Lake Bled at dawn", Simon Shore's hummingbird from Costa Rica and Paul Saunders' long exposure "Coastal dawn". To see all the top-scoring images from the night, go to our Winning Images 2025-2026 gallery.
Next up in the competition line-up is our Monochrome Print competition. See the Programme page for more information.
