Ian Johnson, SCC External Competitions Secretary, looks back on a friendly interclub evening with local club rivals St Ives, St Neots and our excellent hosts for the night, Ely Photographic Club...
Four fellow SCC members joined me at Ely last night (3 December 2025) for the 4-way battle between Ely, SCC St Neots and St Ives. The standard was extremely high and Naomi Saul had a hard job sorting out the wheat from the wheat.
We finished joint third after being 4th at the break. For once, our prints scored better than our PDIs with Eleni Paliginis’s “Dancing Cala Lilies” and Paul Saunders' “Puffins at Golden Hour” scorning the maximum 20 points. Congratulations to both. Our image selections are shown below:

Roger James - Eurasian Red Seeks Permission to Land (18)
Jon Watkins - Dawn at Ribeira da Janela (18)
Dona McCullagh - Landscape of the Pixies (17)

The overall scores were:
Ely 295
St Ives 294

It’s interesting to note that our next opponents on 8 January 2026 are St Neots and the judge once again, is Naomi Saul. Lets hope its not a case of Deja View.
