Following the most successful Annual Exhibition yet, with a record-breaking 205 visitors, we are excited to announce the winner of the inaugural Jane Greatorex Trophy for the most votes cast by the public on the day...
The trophy is named in honour of a beloved long-time member and former President of the Club, Jane Greatorex, who we sadly lost just days before the exhibition following a short illness. Jane was a very active and enthusiastic member of the club, and instrumental in establishing the annual exhibition with Simon Shore many years ago, and so it seems especially fitting to pay tribute to her in this way, with the trophy awarded in her name to the author of the photograph that attracts most votes from the public attending the exhibition.
And we are delighted to announce that the honour this year goes to Emma Hall's "The Smallest Mouse", which captured the moment the UK's diminutive harvest mouse poked its nose out from a worn old boot, getting 18 votes. Paul Saunders' "Did Someone Say Dinner?" and Simon Shore's "Swavesey Lake Sunrise" were in a close joint second place, with 17 votes each, and Roger James' astonishing capture of a damp red squirrel jumping towards the camera, "Eurasian Red in Full Flight" came third, with 16 votes.
For the second year running, every photographer who exhibited received at least one "favourite print" vote from the public, indicating just what a high standard and wide range of appeal the images held.
Paul Saunders was the photographer who received the most overall public votes for his prints, with 51 votes, with Simon Shore the runner up with 44 votes, and Roger James in third place with 30 votes cast for his images.
Money raised for charity
We are delighted to announce that £180 was raised on the day through the sale of photographic prints and cards, the proceeds of which were donated to the Over Day Centre.
Our thanks go to our sponsors, Ash Croft Veterinary Surgery and Willow Bay Finanacial Partners, for their support of the event helping us to cover our costs, and to all those members and spouses who baked numerous cakes and served our visitors cheerfully throughout the day.
