For those looking to improve their skills in a more structured way, we've also listed some photography workshops and courses you might be interested in.

  • Historic steam train passing through Cambridgeshire - Saturday 14th February 2026
    Locomotive No. 34067 Tangmere will be pulling The Railway Touring Company's Valentine's White Rose service from London King's Cross, stopping at Huntingdon at 8.55am and Peterborough at 9.44am.
  • Secrets of Cambridge Photography Competition - entry dates 1-28 February 2026
    Campkins Cameras is collaborating with Cambridge Arts Festival to invite photographers of all ages to explore Cambridge beyond the obvious - hidden courtyards, unold stories, overlooked corners...

  • The Photography & Video Show - 14-17 March 2026, NEC Birmingham
    An event for anyone passionate about photography, video or content creation. Thousands of visual storytellers visit over four days to try and buy the latest camera kit and accessories, get tips and inspiration from big names, connect with each other.
  • Lee Miller: Tate Britain Exhibition – 2 October 2025 to 15 February 2026, Tate Britain, London
    With the most extensive retrospective of her photography yet staged in the UK, Tate Britain celebrates the trailblazing surrealist photographer Lee Miller as one of the 20th century's most urgent artistic voices.
  • The British Photography Awards - 400 images showcasing the best of British photographic talent
    If you need some inspiration, browse through 20 categories of images, from architecture to water life and from drone to macro photography. 
  • The 25 best sports photos of 2025 - and the stories behind them

Photography workshops and courses

  • Steve Hedges Photography Workshops and Courses
    Steve Hedges LMPA, LRPS (originally known as ArtEscape Photography) has been providing workshops and photography courses throughout the UK for over 15 years, half of his career as a professional photographer. Steve teaches a broad range of students, and many of his workshops are held in his base of East Anglia, but stretch out across the South of England to Wales and up to Yorkshire. 
  • Kevin Pigney & Lisa Verrinder - Coastal Workshops - East Anglia
    Learn how to use graduated filters, how to bracket your exposures, long exposure techniques using ND filters, camera settings, recommended equipment and planning a shoot. Kevin Pigney is a regular speaker at Swavesey Camera Club. 
  • Campkins Cameras events and workshops
    Campkins' photography events and workshops are designed to help both beginners and experienced professionals learn and grow as a photographer, with experts to guide through a range of topics, including composition, lighting, editing and techniques. 
  • EJ Lazenby Free photo editing challenges
    Each year, usually between Christmas and New Year, E. J. (Jane) Lazenby, who has been a speaker at SCC, runs a free five-day photo editing challenge online, with daily video tutorials, live Q&A sessions and a supportive community. Learn new skills to create fine art images and set your creativity free!
  • The School of Photography
    Founded by Marc Newton, a qualified teacher as well as professional photographer, TSoP has a wealth of video-based courses teaching everything from photography basics to Lightroom & Photoshop to specific photographic genres and techniques like studio lighting, fine art portraiture and street photography. With a subscription you can pick and choose, learn at your own pace and join an online community for feedback.
  • The OU/RPS Digital photography course: creating and sharing better images
    A 10-week online course developed by the Open University in partnership with the Royal Photographic Society will develop your technical and visual skills as you learn the principles of digital photography and image editing, alongside like-minded people. It's a great pre-cursor to the LRPS distinction, as the final week module requires you to submit ten images in a similar format.
